What do you get when you combine 6 Monster Trucks, old beat up cars and an arena full of die hard fans? It's not quite the answer we thought it would be, but it was still a GREAT time!
We decided that we would take Tyler to the Monster Jam this year, since he has been infatuated with Grave Digger, and the rest of the Monster Jam crew, for the past several months. For those who don't know, The Monster Jam is an annual monster truck show that comes to South Florida. We've been to previous shows in previous years with friends [pre-Tyler] and had a blast. So, I bought tickets and also got Pit Passes for the Saturday afternoon show!
In the past, the event has been at an outdoor stadium, so we were really curious to see what it was going to be like this year, at an indoor arena. I, being 9 months pregnant, was glad it was indoors in the A/C, or I would not have attended. Once we finally got inside after waiting in line for 20 minutes just to get in, we headed to the pits. We didn't have too much time in the pits because it was so crowded, but we still got to see the trucks and drivers up close, and David and Tyler got to take pictures with all of the trucks. Tyler was in pure amazement and just stared at everything, not saying much.
There was about an hour between the pit passes and the start of the show, so we set out to do some browsing. After spending a small fortune on a stuffed Grave Digger and other vendors, we headed towards our seats. Our seats ended up being in the Club Level, so it was really nice, since that area was far less crowded than the lower levels. Not too long after, the show began. And that's where it gets interesting...
As the first truck fired up, we quickly realized why we saw SO many kids wearing ear muffs! It was SO loud! It only took a few seconds for Tyler's eyes to fill with tears. He was scared to death. We tried to keep him seated with us, but all he kept saying was that he "wanted to go to Mommy's car". David went and bought ear plugs, but Tyler wouldn't keep them in, so he took him back to the restaurant area and they watched from there for a while. Then I went back and sat with him so David could watch the show. With a little bribery of popcorn, and his new stuffed Grave Digger by his side, we were back in our seats to watch the rest of the show. By that time, Tyler was used to the noise and his eyes were fixed to the event floor. We even got to see some BMX stunt bikes and dirt bike stunts at "half-time". Here are a few pictures from the show. Of course, Tyler never took his eyes off of Grave Digger the entire time.
In the end, we all had a great time. It took some time for Tyler to get used to the noise, but then again, the noise took me by surprise, as well. I think next year will be even better and we'll be sure to bring his ear muffs along! And so it goes...

When you mentioned on facebook or somewhere that you were taking him I immediately thought about how loud it is! I was wondering how he would handle that. But I think he did a pretty good job for only being two! Can't wait until I can take Kailyn to an event.
