Little Aquanaut

Dear Mother Nature:
A little dose of warm weather does a body good. But, since you've denied us of our abnormally warm winter, we'll just settle for a dip in Mimi & Popop's hot tub instead.

Sunday, we celebrated Cousin Madison's 3rd birthday. Mimi & Popop promised Maddie she could swim on her birthday, so, since the weather hasn't been it's usual 89 degrees, they turned to the trusty hot tub to fulfill their promise. Tyler has not been swimming since last Summer, so we were excited to suit him up and get his feet wet. I got out a few of the kiddie blow-up toys and threw them in. Well, well, well. Mr. Tyler decided he was going to put on Madison's old ring and take charge of the situation. He jumped off the step into Daddy's arms like he'd been in the pool and using the ring for months, only, this was his first time. It completely caught me off guard. He even dunked himself a few times and it didn't bother him the least bit. I know I have said it a few times in the past, but, we REALLY need to get this fearless water boy into swimming lessons. Below are a few pictures of the Aquanaut (who also just had his 8th haircut) and the Birthday Girl (3 going on 13, really!). And so it goes...

Blarney Boy

“Leprechauns, castles, good luck and laughter.
Lullabies, dreams and love ever after.
Poems and songs with pipes and drums.
A thousand welcomes when anyone comes...
That's the Irish for you!”

Even our four-legged, furry boys joined in on the festivities...

From our little Leprechaun to you, have a happy and safe St. Patrick's Day! And so it goes...

18 Month Milestones

Height: 32"
Weight: 28lbs

Places Traveled / Events Attended: As usual, our 'on the go' lifestyle has kept us extremely occupied over the last few months. From Tyler's last milestone update, we've celebrated Christmas, the New Year and Valentine's Day. These holidays included our travels to Sebring and Lake Wales. We've also celebrated many, many birthdays with friends and family. We attended our first ever Mud Bog, which was eventful, to say the least. The best part of the last few months was finding out on Tyler's 16 month birthday, that he would be a Big Brother this coming August. What an exciting few months it's been!!!

Accomplishments: This list is endless, as I'm sure it will be for the rest of his life. Every day brings something new, even if it's something just as simple as walking up to the dish towel hanging in the kitchen and wiping his face. At this age, he is a sponge and will mimic everything. He's watching even when you don't think he is.
Tyler is becoming more and more of a little helper these days. Clean up time is popular with me and to make it a little more interesting, we sing a song: "Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere. Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share." We sing this repetitively until all the toys are back in the toy box. The same goes for shower time, all toys have to be picked up and put away before he can get out. Along the same lines of being helpful, he will also go sit in his chair when I tell him it's time to put his shoes on to go bye-bye.
Tyler's eating habits are still very good, but I have noticed him becoming more and more picky about the foods that he will eat. Some things that he used to eat no problem, are rejected now. Aside from that, the only thing that has changed is that he can now take bites on his own, meaning I don't have to cut everything in tiny bite-size pieces any longer. He will eat a whole banana, and things of that nature, bite by bite, until gone. Daddy still gets a bit nervous and is always at bay waiting to dig something out of his throat. These new 'big boy' eating habits must be courtesy of the complete set of first molars that he cut when he was 16 months.
Lastly, and most surprisingly, Tyler is binky-free. It's been almost 3 weeks now since his last twirl of the binky in his mouth. I thought it would be a lot harder than it was, but he let it go and never looked back. For the most part, he only used it for sleep time anyway, so it wasn't too much of a withdrawal. The first few nights that I took it away, when I put him in bed, he would point to the little basket on his dresser that holds them all, but I just ignored him and closed his door. Much to my surprise, he didn't even fuss. I've been told that the 24 month mark was a good time to give this up, but I figured I would try it now and see how it went. And, it went well!

New Babbles: A lot of just babbles still, but I'm sure in his mind, it's a very good story that he is telling. We always tell him to just spit it out, because it seems like it's always something so important that he is trying to say. If he doesn't know the word for it, usually the finger pointing to whatever it is does the trick. Among his new words, his favorite is "more". Everything is now "more".

New Discoveries: Aside from his love for sour foods, there are really no new discoveries to mention. He's just growing and maturing and learning every day that goes by. Mommy has made a discovery of her own when it comes to Tyler, and that is, that he needs a haircut at least once a month!!!! Holy cow, does this boy have some healthy hair!!!

Silly 'Dill'

I can now take full credit for at least one thing in Tyler's life.....his love for tart foods.

I, myself, am a lover of limes and lemons. I can eat a whole one in just minutes, right down to the rind. The more sour, to me, the better! This seems to be a trait that my son has picked up. A few nights ago at dinner, after watching Tyler from the across the room, the waiter finally came up and asked us if he was eating a lime. He sure was. The waiter implied that we "weren't right" by giving it to him, but he was enjoying every bit of it and I wasn't about to try and pry it away from him. This wasn't his first lime and I'll put bets on the fact that it won't be his last. The funny sour faces were present during the first few chomps (even Tyler chuckled along with us when he made the faces) and then it was down to business. There was very little pulp left when he was done with it.

Today, I was eating a whole dill pickle, another one of my favorites, and Tyler was clearly interested in what I was indulging in. So what did I do? I gave him his own. He enjoyed every bite, right down to the stem, again, only giving the sour faces in the beginning. The rest was pure satisfaction to him.

I certainly can't complain about this preference of sour over sweet! I'll trade cavities for Vitamin C any day! And so it goes...
